What is AutomateDV?

AutomateDV™ is a free tool designed to facilitate the construction of Data Vault data platforms. As an open-source package than runs on the dbt™ data engineering product, AutomateDV streamlines the process of building your Data Vault. While AutomateDV focuses on Data Vault, it does not constrain how you use dbt™.


With AutomateDV, you can leverage metadata to generate and execute the ETL/ ELT code needed for a Data Vault, eliminating the need to write SQL queries. This not only ensures higher code quality but also reduces errors and significantly boosts productivity.

HOW AutomateDV started

The journey of AutomateDV began with the creation of dbtvault in 2019. Our team at Datavault created the Data Vault automation tool to address the needs of data engineers and analysts seeking an easy and cost-effective way to start building a Data Vault.

After developing the tool based on dbt™, we recognised its potential value to the wider community, and released it an open-source tool.

Since release, we changed the name of dbtvault to Automate Data Vault (AutomateDV) to highlight the purpose of the tool. The motivation behind the development of AutomateDV included:

  • We wanted to leverage the robust functionality of dbt™.
